Although Sigri is the ideal place for rest and relaxation, it also offers a variety of things for visitors to see.

The Petrified Forest Museum is located in the heart of the village, and the Petrified Forest Geopark about 7 km from Sigri. The impressive museum boasts specimens from all over the world, dating back 20 million years. Its display is educational and guides the visitor through a history of natural evolution of the land that is today Sigri. A small Geopark next to the museum allows the visitor to see the petrified wood in its natural setting, although a visit to the Geopark, which contains the largest standing petrified trunk in the world, should not be missed. The Museum offers educational programs for children of all ages.

The Sigri castle is perhaps the most impressive man-made feature in the village. It was built by the Sultan Mehmet in 1746 to protect the Turkish fleet in the Sigri harbor. Today, visitors can walk through the iron door and along its wall for an impressive view of the village and the surrounding sea.

The church of Agia Triada was originally built as a mosque, but unlike most mosques which face Mecca, this church faces east. Next to the church is the old hammam (Turkish baths) which are out of use. Faneromeni church is located on Faneromeni beach (3km) and is worth a visit. It is a small church inside a cave. The Ypsilo Monastery, about 10 km outside Sigri, is also a beautiful monastery located at the top of one of Lesvos’s tallest mountains.

Skala Eressos is 30 km from Sigri, and is a coastal town that caters to tourists, offering sunbeds, water sports, beach bars and tavernas along its coast. A good day trip that will leave the visitor eager to return to the quiet of Sigri.details
